You do not become a leader on the day somebody changes your job title. Learning how to become a leader starts long before that, in decisions nobody was scoring at the time: whether you spoke up when something was not working, how you behaved under pressure, whether you helped a colleague think something through instead of solving it for them, how you handled disagreement when it would have been easier to let it pass.
